WASHINGTON, D.C.: The White House defended a major raid at a Hyundai facility in Georgia, saying it underscored the Trump administration's commitment to enforcing immigration and labor laws governing foreign workers.
"Any foreign workers brought in for specific projects must enter the United States legally and with proper work authorizations," White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said in a statement.
She added that President Donald Trump remains focused on balancing immigration enforcement with his pledge to strengthen the business climate. "President Trump will continue delivering on his promise to make the United States the best place in the world to do business, while also enforcing federal immigration laws," Jackson said.
This week, U.S. immigration authorities raided a Hyundai Motor car battery facility under construction in Georgia, detaining hundreds of workers. The operation has prompted new questions about how foreign labor is vetted for large industrial projects, particularly in high-demand sectors such as automotive manufacturing.
